Building Control

The following links will help you through the Building Control process:

Local Authority Building Control protects the interests and safety of individuals, communities and businesses.

The Building Control Section will assist you through the legislative process of achieving compliance with national building standards. These are designed to safeguard the health and safety of people in and around buildings as well as promoting the conservation of fuel and power.

We can make an important contribution to your project by giving practical advice throughout its design and construction.

Redcar and Cleveland's Building Control team operate using time served, regularly updated, standard operating procedures and are committed to providing a knowledgeable, responsive, cost effective, efficient, client oriented service that meets your expectations.

The section endeavours to keep its customers informed of how the Building Regulation procedure works including the progress of their application. To help achieve this goal, our staff of qualified Building Surveyors provide a sensible plan checking service together with a flexible regime for inspections of building work in progress to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Regulations. This can help improve the quality and perceived market value of your development.

It is important to remember that Building Regulation Approval differs from Planning Permission. This may need to be applied for under the Town & Country Planning Act as described in the Development Management section of the website.
