SSI Task Force - Help information

This page relates to the work of the SSI task force.

The task force includes representatives from local agencies, businesses, trade unions, MPs, council leaders and other stakeholders.

The aim of the group is to ensure that following the liquidation of SSI, the impact on the workers, local businesses and the wider community is reduced as far as possible by delivering a programme of tailored support.

  • Jobs and Skills Fund This is a wage subsidy scheme which is intended to encourage businesses to create new job opportunities and to employ former SSI employees, supply chain workers affected by the closure of SSI and spouses or partners of workers, who are living in the same household. The scheme will subsidise the cost of employment for positions made available for a minimum of three years. There is a link to the Jobs and Skills Fund at

  • Support Fund This is a grant support to SSI supply chain companies to overcome problems of lost revenue and debt, together with grant support to encourage growth companies to bring forward their growth proposals and create new job opportunities. There is a link to the Support Fund at

  • Safety Net Fund The Safety Net Fund covers crisis situations where, because of a loss of employment income, there is a severe risk to the health, safety and security of the applicant, or an immediate family member or dependent which cannot be met from another source. For example, there may be no immediate access to food, heating etc. because of income lost through unemployment. Applications are completed online

  • Business Advice This fund will be made available to former SSI workers to provide business start-up advice and the provision of grants to enable them to start up a business. There is a link to the Business Advice Fund at
