To register a death you will need an appointment.
You can make an appointment by calling the Register Office on (01642) 444440.
We will arrange a private, face-to-face appointment with a Registrar at the Register Office within Redcar & Cleveland Civic Centre, Ridley Street, Redcar TS10 1TD.
Registering a death is free of charge and your appointment will take approximately 30-45 minutes. The Registrar will ask for the following information:
- The date and place the person died
- The full names and surname the deceased was known by, and any previous names, including a maiden surname, if applicable
- The date and place of birth of the deceased
- The deceased's occupation/job and whether they were retired or not.
- The deceased's marital status. If applicable, we record the full names and surname of their spouse/civil partner, and their occupation/job
- The deceased's usual residential address
- The full names and surname, relationship to the deceased and home address of the person registering the death
Once the death registration has been completed, the Registrar will issue:
- Paperwork needed for the funeral (unless already issued by a coroner) and forward this to the relevant funeral director and crematorium or burial authority.
- Death certificates, if required. These can be purchased at your appointment, or at any time after. Certificates cost £12.50 each.
