Beach Base sports facilities to open

BEACH Base – a brand-new attraction on Redcar’s seafront – is calling out for local sports-based clubs and community groups to partner with.

The venue, which partly opened earlier in the summer to sell food, beverages and ice creams as well as to provide public toilets, will be available for sporting, community, health and wellbeing activities and events as of Saturday 10 August, following the official opening ceremony at 1pm.

Ben Nichols, manager at Redcar Beach Base, Imaginative Productions, said: “We are officially opening Beach Base on 10 August and would love to see people come to celebrate with us. We’re planning music, entertainment and hopefully the weather will be on our side.

“We are beginning exciting new partnerships with the local sporting community groups and are inviting anyone with an interest in collaborating with us to reach out to us.”

British Triathlon, British Rowing and British Cycling - the National Governing Bodies for their respective sports – have all endorsed the project with a vision of bringing community activities and local, regional, and national competitions to the hub, including the Go Tri series.

The facility will also offer the opportunity for local organisations to host a range of their own activities and events. The unique shipping container site will be used as a meeting place and an informal base for clubs, school groups, activity leaders, families, and groups of friends.

Ben added: “We are privileged to be able to offer such a unique and high-quality facility to the Redcar area, and we look forward to serving the community for years to come.”

The project has been funded by Tees Valley Combined Authority and the UK Government and has been delivered by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

Cllr Lynn Pallister, Cabinet Member for Growth and Enterprise at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “As a Council, we are so pleased to see this amazing facility open to the public and we are proud to have played a crucial role in its delivery. It is a fantastic asset on Redcar’s seafront, which will provide visitors and residents with access to sporting events and activities, boosting tourism and our local economy. We wish Beach Base every success for the future.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Our coast is a superb location for sporting activities of all kinds - so it’s important we have the best facilities.

“Beach Base will not only be a great resource for local people but also supports our drive to attract more people to our fantastic region and for them to spend money at our great local businesses.”

Catherine Clennett, Chair of Redcar Town Deal, said: “I am delighted to see that Redcar Beach Base is now fully open as a sports and community facility. It was always a priority for the Board to boost health and wellbeing in Redcar and the local area, providing a hub for water sports, running, cycling and walking clubs and events to support this. I have every confidence that it will prove a huge success with Imaginative Productions working in partnership with the Council to deliver a range of events and activities throughout the year.”
