About Scrutiny Committees
The role of Scrutiny Committees within Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is to undertake the overview and scrutiny role on behalf of the Council in respect of all matters in relation to:
- Adults and Communities directorate
- Children and Families directorate
- Resources directorate
- Climate change, Environment, and Culture
- Economic growth.
Adults, Wellbeing & Health Scrutiny & Improvement Committee
The role of this committee is to discharge the Health Scrutiny responsibilities of the Council, reviewing and scrutinising the provision, planning and operation of Health Services in the Borough in accordance with Health Scrutiny regulations.
To discharge the Council’s scrutiny responsibilities in relation to Crime and Disorder Reduction in line with the Police and Justice Act 2006 and related legislation.

Children & Families Scrutiny & Improvement Committee
The purpose of this committee is to undertake the Overview and Scrutiny role on behalf of the Council in respect of all matters in relation to the Children and Families Directorate.

The purpose of this committee is to undertake the Overview and Scrutiny role on behalf of the Council in respect of all matters in relation to the Resources Directorate alongside:
- having strategic oversight and direction of the scrutiny function of the Council
- exercising and operating the process of call-in
- exercising the powers of the Council in relation to Councillor Call for Action.
