Reporting an allergic reaction
Food allergies can present themselves in a variety of different ways to those affected by them; these range from itching and hives to full anaphylaxis, which can be fatal.
There are 14 regulated allergens, and food businesses have a responsibility to inform you of these allergens in a variety of different ways; this can be via menu’s, verbally upon ordering, or on printed on packaging. It is important that you communicate your dietary requirements to the food business, so they are fully informed of your food allergy or intolerance.
Reporting a food allergen incident
If you do suffer an adverse reaction following consumption of food anywhere in the North East, you can report in one place and your complaint will get to the right team of the local authority where you bought the food.
The Northeast Allergic Reaction Notification Form can be used when you think you have bought or consumed food containing an allergen and you think you have had an adverse reaction from that food.
The form should be completed by the person who has eaten the food or drink bought in the Northeast of England, or their representative, as soon as possible. Once you have completed the details, your form will be sent to the relevant Local Authority for investigation.
They will contact you to discuss your concerns and may ask for more information about what happened.
