Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's successful pop-up vaccine clinic surpassed expectation on Monday, providing jabs to 951 people.
The team, supported by the Northumbria Roving Vaccine Unit, based themselves at Redcar and Cleveland College, where they were inundated with people requesting jabs and boosters.
Fran Anderson, Assistant Director of Public Health, said:
“The success of the clinics is testament to the hard work and passion of the team involved. We have invested a lot of time in engaging with our communities to make them aware of the opportunity, which a total of 5384 people have now taken up, across 14 pop-up sessions."
Most of the 951 jabs were booster injections. 50 flu vaccines were also administered.
The team will be back at it this Saturday 4 December at Grangetown United and Community Hub on Derwentwater Road (TS6 7PY) from 8:45am – 5:30pm and will once again be supported by The Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
As ever, no appointment is needed and members of the public can turn up to receive either their first or second jab, or their booster. 8 weeks must have passed between first and second injections for 18+, with 12 weeks between the two for 16/17year olds.
12-15 years olds can receive first doses only – and must have consent.
For boosters, please ensure it is 6 months since your second vaccination,
Boosters are offered to:
· Age 40 & over
· Frontline health & social care workers
· Age 16 to 49 years in the at-risk group for COVID
· Adult carers
· Adult household contacts of those in at-risk groups
Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Health, Housing and Welfare, Steve Kay, said:
“762 people at Guisborough was the record number of people in one day at these sessions; yesterday surpassed that very significantly. With Christmas on the way and a new variant coming to light, it is great to see such large numbers of people doing the responsible thing and protecting themselves and others."
