New round of grant funding available for local businesses

Businesses in Redcar and Cleveland whose trade has been significantly impacted by Covid-19 lockdown and local restrictions can apply for a new grant.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is now accepting applications from businesses which have not previously been eligible for coronavirus-related cash grant support but have been affected during the period between 5 November 2020 and 31 March 2021.

If successful, a one-off payment, which can range from £1,000 to £10,000, will be issued.

Eligible businesses include:

  • Businesses which provide in person services (such as animal groomers and tradespeople visiting people's homes) which have not been forced to close but have experienced significantly reduced trade due to social distancing and 'stay at home' advice;
  • Those businesses which not been forced to close, but which have experienced significantly reduced trade because of the closure, reduced trading or changed operational activities of other businesses in response to the pandemic;
  • Self-employed individuals who have been in receipt of Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS), market traders and other traders able to evidence regular pitches within the borough will also be eligible where they cannot evidence a local operational address.

Businesses only have until April 30 to apply for the grant and can do so by visiting www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk

Payment amounts and eligibility decisions will be made at the Council's discretion.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has issued more than £35million to the borough's local businesses under previous grant schemes since this pandemic began. These grant schemes are no longer accepting applications.

Cllr Wayne Davies, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “This has been a really tough year for our local businesses, and our team have worked round the clock to try and get as much grant funding out to business owners as soon as possible.

“We are urging eligible businesses to take advantage of this recent fund, which is only open for a few weeks. Please help us spread the word to any business owner out there who you think might fit the criteria."
