There's a chance to show your support for our Armed Forces on Armed Forces Day in Redcar on Saturday 26 June when a Second World War Dakota plane will fly over the High Street.
The event will be much reduced from previous years due to pandemic restrictions and there will be no parade or street entertainment.
However, there will still be a memorial service, speeches, a limited number of stalls and a highlight will be a flyover from a Dakota plane in memory of the Battle of Britain.
People are reminded to maintain social distancing and the plane will be clearly visible at both the east end of the High Street and the seafront. The event will also be livestreamed on Facebook so people can witness it live at home.
Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Carole Morgan, said: “This is an opportunity for the whole community to come together and show everyone who serves our country in the armed forces just how proud of them we are.
“However, we mustn't forget to work together and follow all the rules so we can beat the coronavirus. Please remember to maintain social distancing, or why not see the plane from the comfort of your home on Facebook?"
The Royal British Legion (RBL) and Redcar Rotary Club are organising the event with council support. There will be a very limited number of stalls for the RBL and Rotary Club and an area will be set up for speeches by the Rotary Blue Clock on the High Street from 9am.
At 11am there will be an official opening where Mr Eric Howden BEM of the Royal British legion (Redcar branch) will introduce the Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland, Councillor Carole Morgan, who will open Armed Forces Day 2021. The programme for the official memorial event will include the playing of the Last Post and Reveille and the National Anthem.
The Dakota will fly over the High Street at 2.15pm.
