Ward Councillors representing South Bank, Grangetown and Teesville wards were today (30 June) updated on plans to deliver a new swimming pool in Eston and the creation of a masterplan to deliver a sports village on the site.
The meeting, which is part of an ongoing commitment by the Council to keep local Ward Councillors updated on progress, included:
- an update on the project team
- a project plan update including key milestones and engagement
- an update on the site masterplan
- feedback and comments from members on the plans so far for the swimming pool.
Cabinet Member for Health, Housing and Welfare, Cllr Steve Kay said:
“Delivering a new pool as quickly as we can at the Eston site is a priority for the Council and we are committed to ensuring that local Councillors, residents and key stakeholders are fully informed of ongoing developments; including plans for the pool and the potential for a variety of sports on the site.
“A timetable has been proposed which should see work start on the new swimming pool by November 2022. And, if everything goes to plan, the new pool should take 12 months to build.
“We are also taking the opportunity to look at maximising the potential of the site through the development a masterplan for a sports village."
To deliver the pool as quickly as possible the proposals focus on delivering a pool on site, which will be similar to the existing facility: a 25 metre, six lane pool, with viewing gallery, in close proximity to the existing pool.
A detailed independent structural report in March this year highlighted that repairing Eston pool would be neither financially nor structurally viable.
