Christmas Covid sufferers can now get jabs or boosters – several more walk-in dates coming up near you

Saltburn and Redcar are amongst the next locations in a series of January vaccination clinics organised by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.

With the steep rise in infection rates seen over the festive period, many people have been unable to get their Covid jabs or boosters, since 28 days must have passed between the first day of a person's symptoms - or the day of their first positive PCR or LF test result for asymptomatic people - and receiving a jab.

This means that people hit by the virus, who had a positive test result or developed symptoms on Christmas Eve or earlier, are now free to get their jab tomorrow, Friday 21 January at Saltburn – whether that's a first or second dose, or a booster injection.

People with a positive result and/or initial symptoms between Christmas Day and 27 December could attend the clinic on Monday 24 January, also at Saltburn, while those who tested positive between Christmas and New Year or at the start of January could visit Redcar on Friday 28 or Monday 31 January.

No appointments are necessary and these clinics are not just for those recently affected by Covid. All who need a jab or booster are encouraged to attend.

The Saltburn sessions will take place at Saltburn Cricket Club, Marske Mill Lane, TS12 1HJ from 10am – 5pm on Friday 21 January and Monday 24 January.

The Redcar sessions are at Redcar & Cleveland College, Corporation Road, Redcar, TS10  on Friday 28 and Monday 31 January, also from 10am – 5pm. These clinics are all offering:

  • First and second vaccines (8 weeks between the two for over 18s)
  • Boosters are available for 18 and over only (3 months must have passed since second vaccination)
  • Vaccinations available for 16 & 17 year olds (12 weeks between first and second)
  • Vaccinations available for 12–15 year olds (12 weeks between first and second and must have consent)
  • Flu jab available for those 65+ (and those under 65 who are eligible)
  • Over 18s can have vaccine 28 days after a positive COVID test if now asymptomatic. Under 18s must wait 12 weeks.
  • On-site parking available

Further sessions are being added to the calendar as follows, with times to be confirmed. Details will follow on the council's Facebook page:

  • Tuesday 25 January - Eston Square (am)
  • Tuesday 25 January - South Bank Asda (pm)
  • Wednesday 26 January - Corus Club Dormanstown
  • Thursday 27 January -  Spencerbeck Community Centre
  • Saturday 29 January - Bydales School, Marske (8:45am – 5:45pm)

Cllr Steve Kay, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Health and Welfare, said:

“As national restrictions ease, it is especially important that everybody is vaccinated. With more freedom and mixing, it is likely that the virus will continue to spread; so we must minimise its potential effects with a vaccine to keep ourselves out of hospital instead. If you haven't done so already, please come along to one of our quick and easy walk-in clinics near you and ensure you are fully vaccinated and boosted."
