A SERIES of special activities will be held in Redcar and Cleveland to mark this year’s Armed Forces Day.
Taking place on Saturday 25 June, the day will officially open at 10.20am with a parade of military personnel, both past and present, on Redcar High Street.
Entertainment has been organised throughout the day for people of all ages, with music and singers, cadet drill displays, and children’s activities such as a climbing wall and mobile cave.
The iconic Lancaster Bomber will be seen in the skies for a fly past during the afternoon, and military memorabilia will be on display.
Refreshments will be on offer, and local charities and groups will have stalls along the High Street.
The event, which concludes at 3.30pm, is organised by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, in partnership with Royal British Legion Redcar Branch and Rotary Club.
Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Cllr Stuart Smith, said: “We welcome as many people as possible to this fantastic event so we can show our pride and celebrate our incredible armed forces, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans, and cadets.
“Last year, we unfortunately could not give this day the celebration it deserved due to Covid restrictions, so we’re hoping this year will be a fantastic opportunity to bring everyone together, have a brilliant day, and give our thanks to our servicemen and women.”
Eric Howden BEM, Chairman of Redcar Branch Royal British Legion, said: “Armed Forces Day is the town’s chance to show its appreciation for our armed forces, past, present and future. This year, we have many things planned to make it a fun-packed day for all ages.
“The High Street will have many stalls from military and civilian charities, plus singers and dancers and much more.
“We start the week off with our annual flag raising at 10.30am on Monday 20 June at the Garden of Remembrance on Coatham Road opposite the Cenotaph. We look forward to seeing everyone and would like to thank them for their continued support.”
