DELEGATES from the National Piers Society will be descending on Marine Parade, Saltburn at 2.00pm on Sunday, May 14, as part of their tour and celebration of UK piers.
The visitors will be greeted by the Town Crier and the Saltburn 500 Club with residents and visitors to the town being invited to wear Victorian or Edwardian costume and provide a traditional warm Saltburn welcome.
Member of the Saltburn 500 Club and Ward Councillor for Saltburn, Cllr Philip Thomson, said:
“The visit will allow our guests to find out more about the history of the pier, the cliff lift and the pier arcade as well as enjoying what the town has to offer, including the Saltburn miniature railway and the mini golf course.
“They are sure to receive a warm welcome in Saltburn and I would encourage our residents and visitors to come along dressed up in Victorian or Edwardian costume in order to create a traditional atmosphere for our guests.”
2023 has been designated the year of the pier by the National Piers Society www.piers.org.uk which was established in 1979 to help protect the remaining piers in the UK. The society has grown over the years and established itself as the leading authority on piers.
