Statement from the leader of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Cllr Alec Brown, on proposed alterations and cuts to bus services in the area by Arriva.
Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said:
“I have received numerous messages from concerned residents – particularly those in East Cleveland – about proposed service alterations and cuts to bus routes by Arriva. Being able to rely on public transport for business or pleasure is vital for all residents in our borough and particularly for families in more rural areas, many of whom do not have a car.
“The Tees Valley Combined Authority is the Statutory Transport Authority, which works with the region’s local authorities on these matters, and I will be meeting with Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen to discuss the matter and to establish what can be done to reassure our residents about service provision in the future.
“As the leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council, I am deeply upset and concerned about the proposed bus cuts to East Cleveland locations. These cuts would have a detrimental impact on the residents, limiting their access to essential services and opportunities. I will tirelessly advocate for the needs of our community and ask Arriva and the TVCA to preserve vital transportation services for our residents.”
