Redcar and Cleveland commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day

THE Deputy Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Cllr Malcom Head, is inviting residents from across the borough to mark the National Holocaust Memorial Day during a ceremony in Redcar’s Garden of Remembrance.

The Deputy Mayor will be hosting the ceremony on behalf of the Mayor, Cllr Stuart Smith, who will be unable to attend.

Taking place on Friday, 27 January, at 10 am, the ceremony will involve civic officials and representatives of the British Legion remembering those who died in the Holocaust and the genocides of Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Malcom Head said: “Commemorating those who lost their lives in the Holocaust is of national and worldwide importance to raise and maintain awareness across all generations of the atrocities committed and to ensure they will not be repeated ever again.”

“Thus, I would like to invite our residents to join us in the Garden of Remembrance, on the Holocaust Memorial Day, to reflect on the tragic events from World War II, remember the fallen and pay tribute to the survivors.”

The Garden of Remembrance is located on Coatham Road, opposite the Cenotaph and members of the public are welcome to attend.
