The new Loftus Library has opened its doors to the public

Loftus Library has a new home and you’re invited to see it.

A new £2.2 million library has opened its doors on Thursday, 17 August, following a move into a new community hub.

Loftus Library has relocated into Duncan Place as part of the Loftus Future High Street programme that promises to transform Loftus with facilities and attractions for residents and visitors alike.

The ‘new’ Loftus Library has been designed to be a community hub, sharing its space with the local Family Hub to offer a range of services to local residents and their families. The library will come complete with everything you might expect along with a fantastic new children’s area boasting its own treehouse!

Cllr Adam Brook, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Housing, said: “We are really excited for Loftus Library to open its doors. We want our libraries to be places that are warm and welcoming for all and places that offer something for everyone in the community. It’s fantastic to see the progress that has been made on redeveloping Duncan Place and all the great work that is going on here in Loftus.”

To mark the opening of the library, which took place on Thursday, 17 August, activities were held from 11am until 4pm including Lego club, children’s craft sessions, and storytelling sessions for 3–7-year-olds from 11am until 12 noon and 2-3pm for children aged 8 years old or older.

Loftus Library opening hours are:

Monday - 9am until 5pm

Wednesday - 10am until 4pm

Thursday and Friday - 10am until 5pm

Saturday - 9am until 12:30pm

The new community space has been jointly funded by the Government’s Future High Streets Fund and through the Indigenous Growth Fund administered via Tees Valley Combined Authority. The development is part of a larger, £11 million Loftus regeneration plan. To find out more, please visit https://loftusmasterplan.co.uk/
