Coronation Park in Loftus has now been transformed into a vibrant multi-use event and memorial space.
The extensive refurbishment and restoration of the park has been driven by a strong sense of community spirit. The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs Johanna Ropner, recently visited the park as well as pupils from St. Joseph’s, Handale and Badger Hill primary schools.
The park now has a direct access to the youth and community services in Duncan Place, the Family Hub and new library building as well as access via new steps from Zetland Road. This is in addition to the new memorial garden with rose planting to reflect the original central feature of the park.
The is also a large projector wall which will host light shows, images, videos, and important information for residents once the projector is in operation, which is expected next week.
The main area of the park is a powered event space so the Council and local community can hold events, markets, and light shows in the future.
The project was funded by the Future High Streets Fund from Government and the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority.
Councillor Lynn Pallister, Cabinet Member for Growth and Enterprise at the Council, said: “We are so thrilled that the park is now open to local residents who have been so patient while works have been carried out. Improving our towns and villages is important to the Council, and the area has been absolutely transformed. We hope residents and visitors will enjoy it for many years to come.
“We’ve had some amazing visits, including the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, and we thank the pupils from local schools who have helped create a lasting legacy by contributing words inscribed on the plaques on the benches.”
Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, said: “Alongside the huge, transformational projects we’re driving are these smaller but no less important schemes to make our towns and communities to make them even better places to live and visit.
“I’m delighted we could help deliver this fantastic park refurbishment, adding to the many recent positive developments in Loftus to boost employment, local businesses and community resources to make it a town to be proud of.”
