Visitors to Redcar town centre will soon be able to enjoy one-hour free parking in an effort by the Council to support high street businesses and boost the local economy.
The changes will come into effect from Monday, 29 July and will apply to parking along Redcar High Street and Station Road.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Alec Brown, explained:
“Following the end of the funding for free parking from the Tees Valley Combined Authority last year we have listened to feedback from local businesses and residents about the importance of some form of free parking in the town
“I am delighted to announce today that we have taken the decision to introduce one-hour free parking in Redcar so that visitors and residents can pop into town and do what they need to do while supporting High Street businesses and our local economy.”
Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Cllr Carl Quartermain, added:
“The Council has listened to the views of local businesses and residents as well as looking at the economic impact of free parking and decided that the best option is to introduce the one-hour free parking proposal.
“This will be extended to both sides of the High Street and Station Road to help support our local economy, our residents and visitors to the town.”
