Pay your Council Tax

Pay online

You can pay your Council Tax bill online with a debit or credit card, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

You must quote your 11 digit Council Tax account reference shown on the front of your bill as the reference for your payment.

Direct debit

Direct debit is the easiest way to pay your bill. You can set up a Direct Debit online.

We offer customers a choice of four dates each month when they can pay. These are the 1st, 8th, 15th and 25th of the month.

You have the option to pay over 10 or 12 months of the financial​ year (April to March) or however many months are remaining within the financial year.

You are also protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which promises that you will get your money back straight away if anything goes wrong.

Telephone

You can pay your bill by credit or debit card 24 hours a day by phoning the automated bill payment hotline 01642 774774 choosing option 2. Have your card and Council Tax account reference number ready when you call and make sure you stay on the line to receive your payment reference number after payment has been completed.

Post Office and PayPoint

You can pay your bill by cash, debit card or credit card at any Post Office or by cash at any PayPoint outlet nationwide. 

You will need a bill with a barcode on it to pay which can be found on your Council Tax bill.

Standing order

If you would like to pay your Council Tax by standing order, the council's bank details are:

  • Sort code: 54-30-34
  • Account number: 41200136

You must quote your Council Tax account number as a reference only, this can be found on the front of your bill.
