Car parks information

Information about the use of car parks throughout Redcar and Cleveland.

Car parks within the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council area may have pay and display parking in operation. Charges can apply all year round.

There are two types of car parks providing long stay or short stay options. Short stay car parks provide spaces for visitors and are therefore located closer to the town centre, while long stay car parks catering for people working in the town throughout the day are located further away.

Faults or issues

Whilst every effort is made to ensure that ticket machines and signage within car parks are working as intended and have the correct information, there may be instances where this is not the case. If you come across issues with faulty ticket machines or damaged signage in car parks, please report it using the button at the top of the page or the link below:

Scam QR codes

Scammers frequently use QR codes on parking machines or signage within car parks to scam drivers. We advise car park users that parking in our car parks should only be done through the RingGo app or by using cash to acquire a printed ticket for display in their vehicle.

Please use the link below to report any scam QR codes you see in our car parks:

Redcar On Street Parking

Redcar also has pay and display and free on-street parking places. Bays are located in the High Street, Station Road, The Esplanade, Granville Terrace, Cleveland Street, Queen Street and Newcomen Terrace.

There is a range of charges (some parking bays are free) depending on the location and information is displayed at the parking meters or signs adjacent to the bays.

Please make sure that you purchase and obtain a ticket from the nearest parking machine to ensure that you display the correct ticket for the specified parking bay you have chosen.

Alternatively you can purchase a parking session through the Ringo Parking App.

Parking tickets purchased in car parks are not valid for use in on street parking bays.

Pay and Display

Charges apply between the hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday unless otherwise advertised. During certain months of the year the charges may also apply on a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

Details of parking charges are displayed on information boards in car parks and on the front of the ticket machines. Drivers should check the information provided to avoid receiving a parking ticket.

Season permits are available for 3, 6 or 12 months duration. These can be used in all long stay car parks. For further information please ring the parking office: 01642 774 774 .

Conditions of Use

Conditions of use of the parking places are also displayed within the car parks on information boards next to the ticket machines. It is the drivers responsibility to check that all coins have registered before pressing the button to issue the ticket, and to ensure that it is displayed securely within the area of the windscreen before leaving their vehicle in the parking place.

Drivers should ensure that they:

  • Display their ticket or permit in a prominent position
  • Or obtain a parking session through the Ringo App
  • Park fully within the designated bay markings
  • Purchase sufficient time for their stay
  • Don't park in spaces reserved for disabled drivers
  • Don't park on hatched/keep clear areas or single/double yellow lines

If you do not comply with the conditions of use you may receive a Penalty Charge Notice.

Parking tickets purchased in a long stay car park are not transferable for use to a short stay car park and vice versa.

Disabled Badge Holders

Disabled badge holders can park in any of the designated disabled spaces (on-street or within car parks) without charge and without time limit.

Other pay and display parking spaces (on-street or within car parks) they can park without charge but are limited to a maximum of 3 hours.

Provided a valid blue badge is displayed correctly. The badge must be displayed with the side showing the expiry date and serial number and not the photograph side.

Limited Waiting parking bays (on-street or within car parks) they can park for the time limit stated on the relevant information board or time plate.

Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour

Within our car parks we have introduced effective measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in order to reduce the instances and fear of crime.

Measures include the use of CCTV, improved lighting and regular patrols by Civil Enforcement Officers to help to create a safe and secure environment.

Two key points to remember that will assist in reducing the potential for crime are ensuring that you the driver:

  • Place your valuable items out of sight, preferably in the boot of the vehicle.
  • Ensure that your car is locked and any security devices are activated or fitted.

Weight Limits

Car parks have a two tonne weight limit and are therefore not suitable for large vehicles.

There are coach/lorry parking facilities in Redcar at Majuba Road car park and six coach parking spaces in Guisborough at Fountain Street East car park.

Dogs in Cars

Never leave your dog or other animals in your car in warm or hot weather even with windows left open, as they can become severely dehydrated. Owners who put their animals at risk could face prosecution resulting in fines or prison sentences.
