We are responsible for providing signs that give information to road users in Redcar and Cleveland.
The Highway Code defines the types of signs used on the road. Examples of the most common signs in normal use fall into certain groups:
- regulatory signs - signs with red circles. Regulatory signs require Traffic Regulation Orders before they can be enforced.
- warning signs - mostly triangular
- direction signs - mostly rectangular, white or green backed
- destination and map-type signs
- information signs - mostly rectangular, generally blue-backed
- cycle route signs - white on blue signs
- pedestrian signing - generally white on green for footpaths and bridleways, white on blue in pedestrian areas, but a variety of colours can now also be used, usually in pedestrian areas.
Reporting issues with road signs
Whilst we do our best to ensure that road signs throughout the borough are in place and visible to road users and pedestrians, residents and visitors may find some road signs that may need repair.
If you do come across a road sign that needs repairing you can report them online by using the button at the top of the page or the link below:
Reporting issues with damaged barriers
Crash barriers and pedestrian guardrails provide protection to both people and vehicles during collisions.
If a barrier or guardrail is knocked over, damaged or loose then we need to know as soon as possible as it could be dangerous.
If the barrier or guardrail is obstructing a highway or footpath, you should call us immediately on 01642 774774.
