Tide times and beach forecasts

You can find out when the next low tide of each day is, plus detailed weather forecasts, on the Met Office website:
Redcar - Lifeboat Station (Beach) (Redcar and Cleveland) Beach forecast and tide times - Met Office (Please note, this is an external site - we are not responsible for content published on this site).

The Met Office lists three locations for Redcar, but all three are found along the same long stretch of beach, with Coatham closest to South Gare, the Lifeboat Station nearest the town centre and the Stray leading on towards Marske and Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Be sure to check where incoming tides may cut off your return to safety when venturing around cliffs or bays or onto rocks. Always tell others where you intend to go and an approximate time for your return.

The rocks at Redcar are dangerous just one hour after LOW tide. Please use the beach between the red and yellow flags when the lifeguards are on duty, and if someone is seen in difficulty, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.

Dogs

Dogs are very welcome in Redcar and Cleveland but we do ask that they are always supervised and kept under control. Please always have the means to clean up after your dogs. NEVER leave dogs in cars on a warm day.

Dogs should not be taken into children’s play areas or cemeteries.

Beach exclusion zones

Between the 1st May and 30th Sept, dogs should not be exercised in the exclusion zones on Redcar or Saltburn beaches. In Redcar, this zone extends from The Regent cinema to where The Esplanade meets Graffenberg Street.

Guisborough Forest and Walkway

Image

Image with the main alleyway in the Guisborough Forest and Walkway surrounded by trees.

For walking lovers, runners, cyclists and horse owners, Guisborough Forest and Walkway provides the ideal starting point for a visit to Guisborough Forest’s walking routes, cycle trails and bridleways. A trim trail and orienteering trails also start at the site before extending into the forest.

From Guisborough Forest, walks that take in High Cliff Nab, Hanging Stone and Roseberry Topping (the Guisborough Three Peaks) can be completed, along with many other routes leading on to the Cleveland Way national trail.

Children can enjoy the play area or pond dipping and there is a picnic area looking out over the fields alongside the Branch Walkway Café and Visitors Centre. The Sculpture Trail is great for less active visitors following a route of chainsaw carvings into the forest.

Admission is free and car parking is available on site.

Guisborough Museum

Guisborough Museum is a charming town museum, packed with memorabilia and exhibitions of past times, including the old town stocks, railway exhibition and rare photographs. Exhibits from last century’s school days, colourful model houses, and records of those involved in World Wars can also be found here.

Housed in three adjoining rooms within the old stable block behind Sunnyfield House, new displays are prepared every year, so there is always something more to see. New for 2022 is a display dedicated to the Queen Jubilee.

The archives are housed in neighbouring Sunnyfield House, providing a large resource of further photographs and records of Guisborough social history.

Guisborough Museum is entirely volunteer-run, preserving much of the town’s heritage.

It is open every Thursday and Saturday from 2 April 2022 until 29th October 2022, 10am till 4pm. Admission to the museum is free. All areas of the museum are accessible to disabled visitors with ramps and level access. Guide dogs are also permitted.
