Bathing waters
The classifications are informed from the results of regular water sample analysis by the Environment Agency in accordance with the Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EC. The classifications range from Poor to Excellent.
Throughout the bathing season the Authority takes part in the short term pollution monitoring scheme operated by the Environment Agency. We also work closely with Northumbrian Water to improve bathing water quality in the borough.
If there is an unexpected situation which could have a negative impact on water quality and bathers, health notices will be displayed at the beaches.
