Last Sunday, 650 people visited the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council mobile vaccination unit, taking the total number of residents who have used the facility to 7544.
The unit was this time based at Saltburn, where some people came to receive first or second on-the-spot vaccinations; however, in light of the new Omicron variant, most came to receive boosters.
The next two sessions will take place tomorrow at Redcar (15 December), then Brotton on Monday 20 December.
At Redcar, the team will be on hand from 10am – 5pm at Redcar and Cleveland College (Corporation Road, TS10 1EZ), supported by the Northumberland Roving Vaccine Unit, where there will be:
- Flu jab available for over 65s (and those under 65 who are eligible)
- First and second COVID vaccinations for adults (8 weeks between the two)
- First and second vaccinations for 16 and 17-year-olds (12 weeks between the two)
- Vaccinations available for 12–15-year-olds
- Boosters available
The pop-up unit's first visit to Brotton, on 20 December, will also take place between 10am and 5pm at Freebrough Academy, Linden Road, Brotton, TS12 2SJ. As always, no appointment is necessary. Here, the team will be administering:
- Flu jab for 65+ (and those under 65 who are eligible)
- First and second COVID-19 vaccinations (8 weeks between the two for over 18s)
- Vaccinations available for 16 and 17 year-olds (12 weeks between first and second)
- Vaccinations available for 12–15-year-olds, who must have consent (12 weeks between first and second)
- Boosters available for 18 and over only (must be 3 months since second vaccination)
On-site parking is available at both locations.
Councillor Steve Kay, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Health and Welfare, said:
“The news that the Omicron variant is highly transmissible, and that measures are being taken to try and slow it, means it is increasingly important to ensure you are vaccinated and that you have had your booster. While we are yet to find out how this variant reacts against the current vaccines, it seems sensible to cover ourselves by ensuring we have had our jabs regardless, especially as variants which were already in existence continue to hang around. I would urge residents to make use of this highly convenient facility and to follow all Government guidelines to keep ourselves safe."
