Free parking in selected car parks in Redcar and Guisborough on run up to Christmas

Parking in Redcar and Guisborough will be free after 1pm in selected car parks from Sunday 1 December up to and including Tuesday 31st December.

The scheme has been introduced as a bid to attract shoppers into the town centres as the festive season approaches. It will affect the following car parks:

Redcar

  • Parking spaces on the High Street
  • Parking spaces on Station Road
  • King Street Car Park
  • Graffenburg Street Car Park
  • Turner Street Car Park
  • West Dyke Road South Car Park
  • West Dyke Road North Car Park

Guisborough

  • Church Square Car Park
  • Ried Terrace Car Park
  • Fountain Street East Car Park
  • Fountain Street West Car Park
  • Patten Lane Car Park

Members of the public do not have to do anything other than park up in the relevant pay and display location after 1pm.

Yellow stickers on the pay and display information boards and machines will inform motorists of the arrangements.

The Council’s cabinet member for Highways and Transport, Cllr Carl Quartermain, said:

“We’re very pleased to announce this scheme which will support our local businesses during the festive period. We had many requests from residents, business owners, MPs and ward councillors who said that this would be great for the area, and we really want our businesses to benefit from this busy time.

“We want to ensure residents and visitors get every opportunity to buy local. We have some fantastic quality independent retailers offering amazing gifts for everyone. So, if you can, please do some of your Christmas shopping in the borough this year.”
