Remembering those who served

The Mayor will lead the borough in remembering all those who have served as Remembrance Sunday as ceremonies and services are held right across the borough this week.

Mayor, Councillor Stuart Smith, said: “This is one of the most important dates of this year and every year as we remember the sacrifice made for our country and our freedom. It’s not only about those who served in the world wars, although it is about them, but all those who have served in conflicts since. I urge everyone to attend their nearest service.”

The following wreath-laying ceremonies will be held on Sunday 13 November -  unless otherwise stated. Please note road closure information at some locations:

Boosbeck

Act of Remembrance at 2.30pm at the War Memorial, Boosbeck Cemetery, followed by Service at St Aidan’s Parish Church at 3pm.

Brotton

Road closures will be in place

Service begins at 9.45am in St Margaret’s Church, Brotton, followed by procession to the war memorial for Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at approx. 10.50 am.

Carlin How

Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial at 11.45am.

Dormanstown

A Remembrance Service at the War Memorial near All Saints Church at 10.45am followed by wreath laying ceremony.

Easington

Service at All Saints Church at 9.00 am, followed by Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial at 9.45am.

Eston

Road closures will be in place.

The Parade will form up at the California Youth Centre, leaving at 10.40am to arrive at the War Memorial, Eston Square at approx.10.50am for Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony.

Grangetown

Road closures will be in place

Requiem Mass for the Fallen at St Hilda’s Church at 9.am.  Assemble at Argyle Road at 10.30am for the procession to the War Memorial for Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony from 10.50am.  

Guisborough

Road closures will be in place

Parade forms up in Westgate (starting between Westgate Road and New Road) at 10.30am, for march off at 10.45am to the War Memorial. 

After observing the silence, wreaths will be laid and a small service conducted by the Rector of Guisborough. 

The parade will then reform to march back to Westgate. (Wreath Laying will also take place at Roseberry Church at 9.00 am, Upleatham War Memorial at 9.15am and Dunsdale War Memorial at 9.30am).

Lazenby

Service at 11am in St Cuthbert’s Parish Church, Wilton, followed by Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial at approx. 12pm.

Lingdale

Road closures will be in place

Act off Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial at 1.45pm. 

Loftus

Road closures will be in place

Service at St Leonard’s Parish Church at 9am, followed by a Parade from Loftus Town Hall at 10.45am to the War Memorial for a Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony. 

Marske

Parade led by Marske Brass Band, meets at Meadow Road at 10:30am, to parade to St Mark’s Church for the 10:45am Service, followed by a wreath laying ceremony and Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial.  Road closures will be in place.

Moorsholm

An Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the War Memorial outside St Mary’s Church at 10.30am, followed by a Service inside the church.

New Marske

Remembrance Service at St. Thomas Church at 3pm, followed by wreath laying ceremony.

Normanby

Road closures will be in place

The Parade will form up at the Bowling Club from 10.30am to parade at 10.45am to the War Memorial at Smiths Dock Park for Service and wreath laying ceremony on Saturday, 12 November.

The previous day, Friday 11 November , there will be an Armistice Day Service West Street, Armistice Day Service from 10.30am to parade at 10.45 am to 11:15 am for service and wreath laying ceremony by the Normanby History Group.

North Skelton

Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony to take place at the War Memorial at 1pm.

Ormesby

Holy Communion Service at St Cuthbert’s Church at 10am, followed by Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial in the churchyard at 10.50am.

Redcar

Road closures will be in place

The Redcar Branch of the Royal British Legion will hold its Annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service. 

The Parade will form up on Peirson Street (behind the Coatham Social Club) and will march off at approx. 10.45am along Lobster Road, then onto Coatham Road for the Remembrance Service and wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph on Coatham Road at 10.50am.

One wreath to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by the Mayor, Councillor Stuart Smith.

After the Service the Parade will reform for the march past and salute, the Deputy Lieutenant, Mayor, Redcar British Legion President and any high-ranking military officer will take the salute.

Tea/Coffee will be served before the Service at 10.00 am and refreshments afterwards at the Coatham Social Club, Coatham Road, Redcar.  (Members and Officers of the Council are welcome to attend). 

Saltburn

Service starts at Emmanuel Church at 9.30am, followed by a Parade to the War Memorial for Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at 10.50am.  Road Closures will be in place.

Skelton

Road closures will be in place

Service of Remembrance at All Saints Parish Church at 9.45am followed by a wreath laying ceremony and Act of Remembrance at the war memorial at 10.50am. 

Skinningrove

Road closures will be in place

Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial at 12.15pm. 

South Bank

Service at St John’s Parish Church at 9.30am, followed by Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial, King George’s Square at 10.45am.

Teesville

Service and wreath laying Ceremony in Eston Cemetery (next to the war graves) on Saturday, 12 November at 10am.
