Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has received confirmation from Stagecoach that the Traffic Commissioner has approved the operation of services 1 & 2 from Monday 10 July. These routes connect Brotton, Carlin How, Skelton, Lingdale, Liverton Mines, Loftus, Moorsholm and Skinningrove to East Cleveland Hospital, Saltburn Railway Station and Skelton Retail Park.
This supported bus service is funded by Tees Valley Combined Authority for one year and connects several communities in East Cleveland together.
The service does mitigate for some of the lost connections caused by Arriva’s service reductions from 9 July.
Councillor Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said:
“As a Council, we are so pleased that the Transport Commissioner has approved the operation of a Stagecoach bus route which will massively improve transport connectivity for many of our residents in East Cleveland.
“We very much look forward to seeing people benefit from this public transport option which allows people to get to work and college, and provides access to vital services and shops, including East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital and Skelton Retail Park.”
Councillor Alec Brown, Leader of the Council, said:
“We very much welcome this news which we have campaigned for. This will serve many of the villages in East Cleveland that do not currently have a service and will better connect our communities together.
“This currently has funding for one year, so we ask that residents please use the service to demonstrate how valuable this is so it can hopefully continue for years to come.”
