More national funding has been granted for a successful, innovative scheme which supports vulnerable adults in the borough who are working to transform their lives.
The Council’s Changing Futures programme has been awarded an additional £850,000 to help those experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, mental health issues, domestic abuse and contact with the criminal justice system.
Redcar and Cleveland is one of just 15 pilot areas in the country taking part in the Changing Futures programme which focuses on driving lasting system change, providing long-term, joined-up support and ensuring a lasting legacy for their approach locally.
Since the programme first launched in July 2021, a total of 465 people have either been helped or are currently being supported.
Cabinet Member for Health and Welfare, Councillor Ursula Earl said:
“Our team in Changing Futures make a big difference to lives – not only to those who are directly helped but their families, friends and the wider community - so receiving this extra funding is very welcome.
“I’d like to take this chance to thank our dedicated officers who do so much fantastic work and also congratulate those who themselves are taking this chance to improve their lives.”
One person currently being supported has a number of disadvantages and was struggling to navigate a complex system of specialist services. The person also has lots of challenges which made it extremely difficult to attend appointments – but is now getting the intensive support they need.
The Changing Futures programme is a £77 million joint funded initiative between Government and The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK. This funding builds on The National Lottery Community Fund’s ‘Fulfilling Lives’ programme – a £112 million investment over 8 years (2014-2022) that focused on improving support for vulnerable people, by giving them a greater voice in the design and delivery of services.
