REDCAR High Street is set to receive a facelift thanks to investment from the Redcar Town Deal.
Residents and tourists will soon see improvements to the area such as new street furniture, more landscaping with plants and trees, improved lighting and more.
The aim is to help create a vibrant town centre which attracts more visitors and residents, supporting local independent businesses, jobs and attracting further investment.
Members of the public including local business owners are being invited to a special drop-in event to see new images of the proposals. The event takes place on Thursday 22 June at Rediscover Redcar on West Terrace between 10am and 7pm. This is the first of a series of consultation and drop-in events which will run from the new Rediscover Redcar office.
The attendees will get first sight of the new CGI images and project plans and will be able to speak directly to architects, designers and contractors directly involved in each featured development.
The project aims to:
- improve the appearance of the high street by creating an uncluttered environment and developing spaces for events and activities;
- improve the appearance of the southern section of the esplanade by resurfacing and widening pavements, introducing seating and lighting. Dundas and Bath Street will accommodate some parking re-located from the Esplanade;
- improve Station Road by improving pavements, road crossing and street furniture.
This is all part of the Redcar Town Deal. Back in 2019, Redcar was awarded £25 million from the Government’s Town Deal programme and a Redcar Town Deal board was established for the fund, led by a group of industry experts, business leaders, and community representatives, who have volunteered to support the regeneration of Redcar. Alongside Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, they have helped develop large-scale regeneration plans which will make Redcar a more vibrant, sustainable town.
Cllr Lynn Pallister, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth at the Council, said: “We want as many people as possible to come along to this drop-in event to view the proposals. You’ll get first sight of the new CGI images and will be able to speak directly to the project team and designers involved in the process to answer any questions.
“This Town Deal investment will help restore pride in Redcar High Street, upgrading the look for the benefit of residents, visitors and our local business owners.”
If people cannot make the event, there will be an opportunity to view the CGI images online. You will be able to find this at https://redcartowndeal.com/ following the event.
