INFORMATION has been made available or individuals and community groups organising their own street parties and events to commemorate VE Day.
Most parties are expected to take place on Bank Holiday Monday 5 May and organisers are being reminded to register their events by Monday 21 April. The council has also worked with partners, including the Royal British Legion, on an official programme of events for Thursday 8 May.
The celebrations in Redcar are designed to commemorate the end of the Second World War and 80 years of peace as well as to honour those who fought for freedom.
Events must be registered with full permissions for VE Day Bank Holiday Monday (5 May) by Monday 21 April and any permissions on road closures only apply to that day. Events/street parties must be for residents to your street or local area only. A guide to organising a street party can be found here Your guide to organising a street party - GOV.UK
A Government website offers key information and resources about organising an event to celebrate VE Day and also Victory over Japan (VJ) Day on 15 August. The interactive website - ve-vjday80.gov.uk – also has educational material to help young people learn about the Second World War.
