Young people from Redcar and Cleveland with Special Education Needs and Disabilities have the chance to get work experience on a work-based study programme known as Supported Internships.
To raise awareness of this scheme, Prior Pursglove College, who have successfully run supported internships for several years, held a Business Breakfast event on Wednesday, 7 June.
Employers in the area who attended the event had the opportunity to hear from the College, the young people, and local businesses about the benefits of Supported Internships.
Those aged between 16 and 24 years, who have an EHCP and are looking to get a job in the near future can take part in this 1-year programme which gives them the opportunity to grow their skills in a work environment whilst working towards qualifications and developing a strong CV.
Supported Internships are based with an employer, and the young people receive support from a job coach who helps them improve their knowledge, become more confident and feel prepared to secure a job in the future.
The programme also allows local businesses to develop their in-house talent through reliable and enthusiastic young people.

Supported Internships are delivered across Redcar and Cleveland by Prior Pursglove College, Redcar and Cleveland College and NHS England Choices College.
